1st International Student Film Festival Early Melons (5th - 8th of March 2008, Bratislava)
The 1st issue of the festival was held from 5th to 8th March 2008 in Mladost Theatre and A4 – Zero Space for Contemporary Arts in Bratislava. The program was divided into three basic sections: the international competitive section, Slovak competitive section and special thematic screenings. The first issue brought colourful variety of topics, genres, types and nationalities. Overall, festival presented more than 150 movies made by 114 authors from 13 countries. Equal part of the program were special thematic screenings, presentations of partner schools and festivals, debates and concerts. Foreign authors, artists, professionals from the audiovisual sphere and members of the international jury formed important dimension of the event. Program of the 2nd edition of festival was set to show a diverse display of student films. Festival`s aim was to present a variety of themes and techniques used in student films and to enable an engagement between public, film makers, school representatives and film professionals. Basic part of the festival programme was the international competitive section in which an international jury awarded the best films in the categories of Best Fiction, Best Animation, Best Documentary and Grand Prix. Other festival screenings were organized by special thematic selections. The program included profiles of the partner festivals, exhibition of films made by children and high school students, films from countries outside the EU and films from non-european regions, video-art or photographic competition.
